Taiwanese are seen mostly through the broader 'Asian student' lens — a small but growing group valued for diligence, with low open conflict. Honestly, COVID-era research found real prejudice toward Asian students (one study: 61.2% of Asian medical students reported incidents — staring, xenophobic remarks). Outside that episode, experiences are mostly positive, with the language barrier and weather more common complaints than hostility. Taiwan also has a niche but active cultural presence (the Five Flavours festival promoting Taiwanese cinema since 2011).
