The University of Gdańsk was established in 1970 through a merger of two institutions dating back to 1945–1946, making it one of Poland's younger comprehensive universities. Located in Gdańsk on the Baltic coast, it operates 11 faculties covering sciences, law, economics, management, and humanities, and is part of the SEA-EU European Universities alliance. With around 19,700 enrolled students and approximately 1,700 academic staff, it ranks among Poland's top 10 universities and is a notable centre for Kashubian language studies; its alumni include two Polish prime ministers.
