Visa refusal — the honest picture

8.2% Visa refusal rate (2024)

Indonesia's overall Schengen short-stay refusal rate (PROXY): ≈8.2% of roughly 150,000 applications in 2024, stable year-on-year and well below the 16.4% global average

Important: Schengen short-stay figure, not Poland-specific: Poland does not publish national (type D) study-visa refusal rates by country. Indonesia was NOT among the nationalities hit hardest by Poland's 2024 student-visa clampdown (most refusals: Iraq 704, Nigeria 497, Turkey 479, Ethiopia 270, Bangladesh 247, Pakistan 246).

What it's really like

Indonesia sits outside Poland's published top-30 source countries, so the student cohort is small — Poland's then-ambassador to Indonesia put it at over 500 students in 2023 — but newcomers arrive into an unusually organised scene: PPI Polandia, the Indonesian students' association founded in 2015, runs regional chapters from Pomerania to Kraków and acts as an information hub for accommodation, transport and food. Community accounts describe a well-integrated minority that still runs into the language barrier familiar to other Asian newcomers. Administratively Indonesia is one of the lower-friction Asian nationalities: its Schengen refusal proxy was ~8.2% in 2024 and it was not named in Poland's 2024 student-visa clampdown.

Community: No published GUS figure — Indonesia is outside Poland's top-30 source countries; the Polish ambassador to Indonesia cited 500+ Indonesian students in 2023 (Jakarta Globe). The wider community of students, workers and professionals is concentrated in Warsaw, but there is no official count.

Tips from students & forums

  1. Book the e-Konsulat appointment at the Jakarta embassy well ahead and bring the visa fee in cash — the consular section only opens Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, applications are in-person only, and the fee is not refunded if you are refused.

  2. Join PPI Polandia before you fly — the Indonesian students' association has regional chapters across Poland and members share practical intel on accommodation, transport and food, plus an alumni network back home.

  3. Check NAWA scholarships before self-funding: the Polish embassy in Jakarta actively promotes the Banach programme (tuition plus ≈$400/month for Master's studies in engineering, IT and life sciences) to Indonesians, and West Nusa Tenggara students can also use the provincial Beasiswa NTB.

Good to know

  • Poland does not publish a separate count of Indonesian students, placing the cohort outside its top 30 source countries; the Polish ambassador cited 500+ students in 2023.
  • PPI Polandia (founded 2015) organises Indonesian students through regional chapters across roughly ten Polish voivodeships, from Pomerania to Kraków.
  • Indonesia's 2024 Schengen refusal rate of ~8.2% is among the lower rates for Asian applicants, and Indonesia was not among the nationalities named in Poland's 2024 student-visa clampdown.

Last reviewed: 2026-08-13. Visa-refusal figures are Schengen short-stay proxies unless stated; Poland does not publish national (type D) study-visa refusal rates per country. Flight prices and monthly budgets are estimates from aggregators and study.gov.pl and change over time. Entries ranked 31+ are added for search coverage of countries Poland does not publish separate student counts for; their studentsInPoland.count is null by design unless a published figure exists (the Perspektywy/GUS "Studenci zagraniczni w Polsce 2023" report covers some).
