What it's really like

Americans are a relatively small but well-received group — Poland is seen as pro-American, and English opens most doors in big cities. Students (especially of medicine in Gdańsk, Łódź, Wrocław) and tech/corporate expats form an international scene in Warsaw, Kraków, Wrocław and Gdańsk. Experience is usually positive; the main friction is bureaucracy (PESEL, registration) and the language barrier outside big cities, not hostility. Kraków stands out for its large student and international community.

Community: No single hard figure (estimate: low tens of thousands of US citizens, mostly expats and students). US medical students are among the larger groups at Polish medical schools.
