What it's really like
Polish-Hungarian friendship is one of the strongest, most positive bonds in the region — enshrined in the saying 'Pole and Hungarian, two good friends' and a jointly celebrated Day of Polish-Hungarian Friendship (23 March). The two share a long history of common rulers, culture and alliances, plus Visegrád (V4), NATO and EU cooperation. Hungarians are received very warmly in Poland as natural allies. Some political friction emerged after 2022 over differing stances on Russia/Ukraine, but interpersonal warmth remains strong.
Community: No data on a large Hungarian student community, but V4 academic cooperation is intense — the International Visegrad Fund (since 2000) funds scholarships and exchange between Poland, Hungary, Czechia and Slovakia. Erasmus+ between the two is active.
