Honestly, COVID-era research found real prejudice toward Asian students (one study: 61.2% of Asian medical students reported incidents — staring, xenophobic remarks). Outside that episode, experiences are mostly positive, with the language barrier and weather more common complaints than hostility. Taiwan also has a niche but active cultural presence (the Five Flavours festival promoting Taiwanese cinema since 2011). **Community:** Small community; Taiwanese students estimated at ~586–853 (sources/years differ), mainly in Warsaw, Kraków, Wrocław. ## Tips from students & forums 1. Your passport allows visa-free entry, but study >90 days MUST be covered by a type D visa or temporary residence card — don't rely on visa-free entry alone. [eeas.europa.eu](https://www.eeas.europa.eu/delegations/taiwan/travel-study_en?s=242) 2. Apply for the temporary residence card at the voivodeship office before your legal stay (90 days / visa) ends. [educations.com](https://www.educations.com/study-guides/europe/study-in-poland/student-visa-4316) 3. Kraków/Wrocław offer a strong international community and lower costs than Warsaw. [numbeo.com](https://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/compare_cities.jsp?country1=Poland&city1=Warsaw&country2=Poland&city2=Krakow) ## Good to know - Taiwanese enjoy Schengen visa-free short stays — rare among non-EU/EEA nationalities. - Asian students choose Poland for low living costs, English-taught studies and modest cultural distance vs other destinations. [Taiwan on Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taiwan) ## Frequently asked questions ### Do Taiwanese students need a visa to study in Poland? Taiwanese citizens do not need a visa to study in Poland — you can enter visa-free, but study over 90 days requires a type D visa or temporary residence permit. ### How many Taiwanese students are in Poland? About 586 students from Taiwan were enrolled in Poland (2023/24, GUS/NAWA data). ### How much does it cost to live in Poland as a student? Roughly €630–1,210 a month for a student living alone in a one-bedroom flat, from Lodz (the cheapest of the 8 cities we track) to Warsaw (the most expensive); a university dormitory or shared flat usually brings that down to about €400–700. Estimate from Numbeo market data accessed 9 July 2026 — for a visa, rely on the sum the authorities specify. Visa-refusal figures are Schengen short-stay proxies unless stated; Poland does not publish national (type D) study-visa refusal rates per country. Flight prices and monthly budgets are estimates from aggregators and study.gov.pl and change over time. Entries ranked 31+ are added for search coverage of countries Poland does not publish separate student counts for; their studentsInPoland.count is null by design unless a published figure exists (the Perspektywy/GUS "Studenci zagraniczni w Polsce 2023" report covers some).
