Kenya # Study in Poland from Kenya A practical, honest guide for Kenyan students — visas, refusal rates, flights, costs and what life is really like. Backed by sources, not marketing. Poland's overall student-visa refusal rate rose to roughly 38% in 2024 after a general clampdown, so treat Kenya as higher-risk and apply early. Prices vary — estimate from [flightroutes.com](https://www.flightroutes.com/NBO-WAW) ## What it's really like Poland publishes no separate student figure for Kenya, and the country sits outside its top-30 source nationalities — so expect a small, university-clustered cohort rather than an established Kenyan student scene. The documented friction is administrative rather than social: roughly a third of Kenyan Schengen applications were refused in 2024, and Poland's 2024 student-visa clampdown raised scrutiny of African applicants generally. Plan the visa as the hard part of the process and budget time for it. **Community:** No published figure. Kenya is outside Poland's top-30 source countries and there is no single recognised Kenyan student hub; support is more likely to come from university international offices and pan-African student societies than a national association. ## Tips from students & forums 1. Book the e-konsulat appointment as early as you can — the Nairobi embassy advises registering roughly two months ahead, and the type D application must be submitted in person. [gov.pl](https://www.gov.pl/web/kenya/d-type-national-visa) 2. Budget the national-visa fee separately from tuition and show comfortably more than the 701 PLN/month minimum; thin balances are among the most common refusal reasons at Polish consulates. [migrant.poznan.uw.gov.pl](https://migrant.poznan.uw.gov.pl/en/slownik-pojec/sufficient-financial-resources-student) 3. Poland tightened student-visa issuance in 2024, so have your diploma recognition and funding documented before you apply rather than after a request for more evidence. [notesfrompoland.com](https://notesfrompoland.com/2024/09/27/large-decline-in-student-visas-issued-by-poland-after-clampdown/) ## Good to know - About 18,899 Kenyan Schengen applications were refused in 2024 out of just over 60,000 filed (~31.5%). - Poland's overall student-visa refusal rate rose to roughly 38% in 2024, up from 30% in 2023 and 18% in 2022. - Poland does not publish a separate count of Kenyan students, which places the cohort outside its top 30 source countries. Kenyan citizens need a Polish national long-stay (type D) study visa for programmes over 90 days. Typical processing: 2–4 weeks (15 working days, extendable to 30). Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Nairobi — the type D application is lodged in person; appointments via e-konsulat, which the embassy advises booking about two months ahead ### How much does it cost to live in Poland as a student? Roughly €630–1,210 a month for a student living alone in a one-bedroom flat, from Lodz (the cheapest of the 8 cities we track) to Warsaw (the most expensive); a university dormitory or shared flat usually brings that down to about €400–700. Estimate from Numbeo market data accessed 9 July 2026 — for a visa, rely on the sum the authorities specify. Visa-refusal figures are Schengen short-stay proxies unless stated; Poland does not publish national (type D) study-visa refusal rates per country. Flight prices and monthly budgets are estimates from aggregators and study.gov.pl and change over time. Entries ranked 31+ are added for search coverage of countries Poland does not publish separate student counts for; their studentsInPoland.count is null by design unless a published figure exists (the Perspektywy/GUS "Studenci zagraniczni w Polsce 2023" report covers some).
