India # Study in Poland from India A practical, honest guide for Indian students — visas, refusal rates, flights, costs and what life is really like. Backed by sources, not marketing. The highest refusal NUMBERS were Iraq, Nigeria, Turkey, Ethiopia, Bangladesh, Pakistan — India was NOT among the worst-hit. **Important:** No India-specific Polish % is published; the common claim that India tops Polish refusals is not supported by the 2024 data. Treat India as moderate-risk. Prices vary — estimate from [omio.com](https://www.omio.com/flights/delhi/warsaw) ## What it's really like India is one of the larger non-European student groups, concentrated in Warsaw, Wrocław, Kraków and Lublin. Experience is mixed: many report affordable, decent education and a workable cost of living, but also bureaucratic friction (residence-card backlogs, slow visa processing) and occasional racism, especially outside big cities. Polish openness toward non-European migrants lags its welcome for Ukrainians, and the 2024 visa clampdown made the pipeline harder for South Asian applicants. **Community:** ~4,000 Indian students (India MEA estimate, 2024); active Indian student associations at major universities, but no single dominant diaspora hub — community is university-clustered. ## Tips from students & forums 1. Apply for the type D visa as early as possible — peak summer processing at Delhi/Mumbai can stretch well past the nominal 15–30 days; book your VFS slot the moment you have your acceptance letter. [bajajgeneralinsurance.com](https://www.bajajgeneralinsurance.com/blog/travel-insurance-articles/poland-visa-appointment-in-india.html) 2. Keep at least ~11,000 PLN visible in your account for 3+ months before applying; statements must be <1 month old at submission, and thin balances are a common refusal reason. Get your diploma recognised by the Polish kuratorium — since 2024 consulates demand this and missing it triggers rejections. [notesfrompoland.com](https://notesfrompoland.com/2024/09/27/large-decline-in-student-visas-issued-by-poland-after-clampdown/) ## Good to know - ~4,000 Indian students estimated in Poland in 2024 (India MEA data via Shiksha). - Poland's overall foreign-student body reached ~107,000–108,000 in 2023/24, led by Ukraine and Belarus. Visa-refusal figures are Schengen short-stay proxies unless stated; Poland does not publish national (type D) study-visa refusal rates per country. Flight prices and monthly budgets are estimates from aggregators and study.gov.pl and change over time. Entries ranked 31+ are added for search coverage of countries Poland does not publish separate student counts for; their studentsInPoland.count is null by design unless a published figure exists (the Perspektywy/GUS "Studenci zagraniczni w Polsce 2023" report covers some).
