Poland is marketed in China as an affordable 'elite-Europe' alternative, but academic research (Kardaszewicz 2024) describes the lived reality as often conflicted — a gap between the imagined Europe and on-the-ground isolation, language barriers and bureaucracy. Students cluster in Warsaw (Sinology/exchange) and partner hubs like Łódź; visible racism is less reported than for South-Asian/African students, but social integration is limited. **Community:** 1,966 Chinese students (2023/24); University of Łódź alone hosts 150+ Chinese summer-school students; an active national CSSA operates in Poland. ## Tips from students & forums 1. If you'll study >90 days you must get the type D national visa (max 1 year), then convert to a temporary residence permit in Poland. [visitworld.today](https://visitworld.today/poland/china-citizenship/education) 2. Prepare 3–6 months of bank statements in your or a direct sponsor's name — Beijing assesses funds for the full study duration, not just year one. [visa.vfsglobal.com](https://visa.vfsglobal.com/one-pager/poland/china/chinese/pdf/national-study-chi.pdf) 3. Choose a city with an established programme/partner network (Warsaw Sinology, Łódź exchange) to land in a ready-made Chinese student community. Visa-refusal figures are Schengen short-stay proxies unless stated; Poland does not publish national (type D) study-visa refusal rates per country. Flight prices and monthly budgets are estimates from aggregators and study.gov.pl and change over time. Entries ranked 31+ are added for search coverage of countries Poland does not publish separate student counts for; their studentsInPoland.count is null by design unless a published figure exists (the Perspektywy/GUS "Studenci zagraniczni w Polsce 2023" report covers some).
